Glazing trends
But also the customers want added-value glazing. High end customers expect a glazing which makes a significant contribution to safety and comfort. Therefore automotive glazing becomes bigger and more complex. In contrast to the past, today cars consist about 4,6 sqm of glazing (1985 for example only 3,5 sqm).
Nowadays big surfaces can be seen on many cars because glazing and light are key elements to generate a positive atmosphere inside the car. In addition it supports a notion of innovation. On this account a great many cars feature e.g. 2-in-1 panoramic windshields, panoramic sunroofs and complex backlights with very complex shapes because they bring a lot of light into the interior of the vehicle. Another innovation, which is often seen in this context, is Electrchromic Glazing. Electrochromic glass takes this farther than ever before. Now, for the first time, the driver can be in control of the tint that surrounds them. A simple dial in the cockpit allows you to change the amount of light entering the vehicle - anywhere from 4% to 40% - at the touch of a button. People will feel a huge degree of freedom.
