Introduction
Due to the increasing time spent inside a vehicle and to higher standards of living, more and more end-users are also looking for more comfortable ways to make their trips. The search for "atmospheric" comfort means searching for a vehicle interior that is similar to a home, where the end-users live or dream of living in. Therefore, like a house, the perfect vehicle of the future must have the following features:
- it must be clean: not only inside, but also with respect to the environment i.e. it must use efficient engines with low fuel consumption and it must use recyclable materials
- it must filter: the air, water, dust and outside noise, too hot or too cold temperatures as well as other people for security reasons
- it must be safe
- it must be open to light and nature. However, it should also protect the intimacy or privacy of the passengers
- it must be communicative with the outside world via telephones or GPS and also inside the passenger compartment with personal video systems
- it must be communicative with the outside world via telephones or GPS and also inside the passenger compartment with personal video systems
- it must be modular: to accommodate changing family structures and uses or functions
The above features show that there is a need for a "warm" atmosphere in the vehicle. Glass is an important part of the vehicle interior and will become even more so as glazing areas increase in size. With its multiple functionalities that will be described below, glass can certainly contribute to creating a comfortable atmosphere inside the vehicle.
