Life Cycle Assessment
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodology used to assess the environmental impacts of a product or system over its entire lifecycle.
This methodology is standardized in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.
LCA is a key tool for eco-innovation enabling compagnies to identify the primary sources of environmental impact associated with their products and systems. It also provides a robust proof of these environmental impacts which can be used in communication.
Saint-Gobain Sekurit is using LCA since 2020.
Environmental Product Declaration
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a public document verified by a third party and based on LCA results that provides information about the environmental impact of a product or system.
This document is standardized in accordance with ISO 21930 and EN15804+A2 standards.
It enables companies to differentiate themselves in the market by publishing transparent and verified information about the environmental impact of their products, helping consumers make informed decisions based on reliable data.
Saint-Gobain Sekurit released its first EPD in May 2023. This pioneering document was the first of its kind worldwide providing a comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of a glazing utilized in the automotive industry.

Our Actions
At Saint-Gobain Sekurit, we have a long-standing commitment towards sustainable development.
Onsite solar power plant
To achieve our goal of reducing scope 2 emissions by 100% by 2030 compared to 2019 data, our plant in Chakan, India, installed a 1 MW solar power plant on its rooftop and available ground area in 2021. This power plant produced 11% of the plant's total consumption in 2021. This represents a reduction of almost 1,000 TCO2 equivalent in emissions this same year, when compared to the India electricity grid mix coefficient.
Reuse of wood waste
Prior to recycling, it is essential to determine whether waste materials can be prevented or reused.
Our plant in Arboç (Spain) applied this approach with their wood waste, which originated from their supplier's raw glass packaging. The waste wood is now being reused and transformed on site to become brand new wooden crates. These are then used to ship our products to customers.
Domestic water treatment
Our Shanghai, China facility has installed a wasterwater treatment system, capable of recycling up to 130 tons of wastewater per day. This treated water is then reused in the production process. Thanks to this system, the plant saves approximately 30,000 tons of water per year.
